Hail damage repair
Tejas Paint & Body repairs hail damage on cars in Dallas, Texas. We check every panel, document the damage for your claim, repair the dents panel by panel and refinish the paint. We talk to your adjuster and handle the paperwork with you. Our shop is at 615 Fort Worth Ave in Oak Cliff, and our family has repaired cars here since 1981.
What does hail do to a car?
Hail leaves round dents, usually many of them. The roof, hood and trunk take most of the hits, because they face the sky. Side panels, mirrors and trim can be hit too, depending on the storm and the wind.
Some dents are shallow, and the paint stays intact. Others are deeper, and the paint can crack or chip. Large hail can also crack glass. Because the dents come in groups, a hail repair often involves many spots across several panels, not one.
Why is hail damage a concern in Dallas?
North Texas gets hail storms almost every spring. Many Dallas drivers deal with hail damage at some point, even when they park carefully. A storm can pass over one neighborhood and miss the next, so two cars on the same street can look very different afterward.
If your car was parked outside during a storm, it is worth looking it over. Hail dents can be easy to miss in flat light and obvious in the sun.

What should I do after a hailstorm?
A few simple steps protect you and your claim:
Look the car over: Check the roof, hood, trunk, mirrors and glass. Look from different angles and in direct light.
Take photos: Photograph each damaged area, and take wider shots of the whole car. Note the date of the storm.
Check your policy: Your policy sets your coverage, your deductible and any time limit for filing a claim.
Send us the photos: Text them to (214) 698-0369 and we will tell you what we see.
How do I photograph hail damage?
Good photos make the estimate easier. Take them outside in daylight, and avoid shooting straight into a bright reflection. Hail dents show up best when you hold the camera at an angle to the panel.
Take a few photos from different angles, plus one from a few steps back so we can see the whole panel. Photograph the roof, the hood and the trunk lid first, since these usually show the most damage. Then add the sides, the mirrors and any cracked glass.
Does insurance cover hail damage?
It can, depending on your policy. Hail is typically handled under the comprehensive part of an auto policy, which covers damage that is not caused by a collision. Your policy decides what is covered and how much your deductible is.
If insurance is involved, we talk with your adjuster and handle the paperwork with you. We check every panel and document the damage, so the claim shows what the car actually needs. If you want the full picture of how this works, visit our insurance claims page.
Can I choose my own repair shop for hail damage?
Yes. Texas law lets you choose your repair shop (Texas Insurance Code §1952.302). Your insurer can’t require you to use a specific shop. Pick the one you trust and we’ll work with them.
We work with the major insurance companies, including Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, GEICO, USAA and Gainsco.
How do you repair hail dents?
We repair hail dents panel by panel. Each panel is looked at on its own, because the damage on a roof is not the same as the damage on a hood. The repair depends on how deep the dents are, how many there are and whether the paint is still intact.
When the paint is cracked or chipped, the panel needs to be refinished after the repair. When the paint is intact and the dent is small, paintless dent repair can be an option. It reshapes the panel from behind, without sanding or repainting. It works best on small dents where the paint is not cracked. Read more on our paintless dent repair page.
Will every hail dent be fixed the same way?
No. A shallow dent in an open area of the hood is a different job from a deep dent near a panel edge or a body line. We look at the damage and tell you which repair fits each area.
That is also why we do not quote a price before we see the damage. Send photos, and we will give you a clear idea of what the repair involves.
What if the hail broke my windshield?
Large hail can crack or chip glass. Small chips can often be repaired. Long cracks or damage in the driver’s line of sight usually mean the windshield needs to be replaced.
If the windshield was damaged in the same hail storm, we coordinate the glass work with the rest of your repair, so you deal with one shop. See our windshield repair page for details.
How much does hail damage repair cost?
The cost depends on how many panels are damaged, how deep the dents are, whether the paint is cracked and whether glass or trim was hit too. Hail damage can range from a few dents to a car covered in them.
The estimate is free*. Send photos or stop by the shop. If insurance is paying, your deductible is the part you pay yourself. A written estimate helps you compare the repair cost with your deductible.
What if the repair costs more than my car is worth?
In some cases, an insurer decides that the cost of repair is too high compared with the car’s value. That decision belongs to the insurance company and follows your policy. If that happens, we can still explain what the damage looks like and what a repair would involve.
How long does hail damage repair take?
It depends on the number of damaged panels, the type of repair each one needs, parts availability and your insurer’s approval. After a big storm, many cars need repair at once, and that can affect scheduling.
We do not promise a number of days before we see the damage. We tell you what we see, and we keep you posted until your car is ready.
How do you check the finish?
When a panel is refinished, the paint has to match the panels around it. Our technicians are PPG Certified, and we match your car’s original color and finish. Before any car leaves, we check the work under our hexagonal LED inspection lights. They show color differences, uneven texture and small flaws that are easy to miss in normal light.
Can hail damage get worse if I wait?
Yes, in some cases. If hail chips or cracks the paint, bare metal can be exposed, and moisture can reach it. Cracked glass can spread. Policies can also have time limits for filing a claim, so it is wise to check yours soon after a storm.
You do not have to decide everything at once. Send us photos, and we tell you what we see.
Is a hail-damaged car safe to drive?
Often it is, but check the glass, the lights and the mirrors first. Cracked windshields and broken lights are worth fixing quickly. If something looks loose or damaged in a way that affects driving, have it checked before you go far.
If you are not sure, send photos and call us at (214) 698-0369.
How can I lower the risk before the next storm?
Parking under cover is the most direct way, such as in a garage or a covered lot. When you cannot, a thick protective cover can help against smaller hail. Storm forecasts are worth watching in spring, since North Texas storms can form quickly.
No method gives full protection against large hail. If the worst happens, we are here to repair it.
What if the hail damage is from an earlier storm?
Send us photos anyway. We look at the car and tell you what we see. Whether an older storm is still covered depends on your policy and its time limits, so it helps to check with your insurer. If insurance is involved, we talk with your adjuster and handle the paperwork with you.
What does the warranty cover?
Every repair includes our written Limited Lifetime Warranty on our workmanship for as long as you own the car. If something is not right with a repair we did, bring it back and we will make it right. Ask us about the warranty details with your estimate, before any work begins.
