Dent repair
Tejas Paint & Body repairs dents on cars in Dallas, Texas. We fix everything from small door dings to deep creases, then refinish the panel so the repair blends in. After we see your photos or your car, we tell you what the repair involves. Our shop is at 615 Fort Worth Ave in Oak Cliff, and our family has repaired cars here since 1981.
What is dent repair?
Dent repair is the work of bringing a dented panel back to its original shape. The panel is reshaped, and in most cases the area is then refinished so the paint matches. A good repair leaves no visible sign of the dent, whether you look straight at it or along the body line.
Dents come from many sources. Door dings in parking lots, shopping carts, falling branches, light impacts and hail are all common. The right repair depends on the size, the depth and the location of the dent.
What’s included
Door dings: Small dents repaired before they turn into rust.
Creases & larger dents: Panels straightened and refinished.
Paint touch-up: Refinished so the repair blends in.
Final inspection: We check the work under our hexagonal LED inspection lights before delivery.
How it works
1. Send photos: Text or upload a few photos of the damage. No visit needed to get started.
2. We call your insurer: We talk to the adjuster and handle the paperwork with you.
3. Repair + updates: We fix your car and keep you posted until it’s ready.
4. Pick up: Drive away with a repair backed by our Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Can you repair small dings and deep creases?
Yes. We repair everything from small door dings to deeper creases, then refinish the panel. A small ding in the middle of a door is a different job from a sharp crease along a body line. We look at the damage and explain what the repair involves.
Why should I fix a small dent early?
A small dent can seem harmless. But a dent that chips or cracks the paint leaves bare metal exposed. Moisture can then reach the metal, and rust can start. Fixing small dents early helps prevent that.
Dents also tend to stand out more over time, especially on panels that catch the light. If a ding bothers you, send us a photo and we will tell you what we see.
What causes dents on cars?
The most common causes are everyday ones:
Parking lots: Door dings from the car next to you, and runaway shopping carts.
Weather: Hail leaves round dents across the roof, hood and trunk. North Texas gets hail storms almost every spring.
Light impacts: Bumps from garage walls, poles and low-speed contact with other cars.
Falling objects: Branches and other items that land on the car.
Do you repaint the panel after a dent repair?
Yes. Our dent repair includes refinishing, so the panel is repaired and painted to match your car. Our technicians are PPG Certified, and we match your car’s original color and finish. We check the finished work under our hexagonal LED inspection lights before delivery.
What is paintless dent repair?
Paintless dent repair, or PDR, reshapes the panel from behind so the dent comes out without sanding or repainting. It works best on small dents where the paint is not cracked.
Not every dent can be fixed this way. Dents with cracked paint, sharp creases or stretched metal usually need a traditional repair and refinish. We look at the damage and tell you which option fits. Learn more on our paintless dent repair page.
How do you repair a deep crease?
A crease is a sharp fold in the panel, often with a line where the metal bent. Creases are harder than round dents, because the metal can stretch where it folds. The panel is straightened, then refinished so the surface is smooth and the paint matches.
If the metal is torn or stretched too far, replacement may be the better choice. We explain which option fits before any work begins. See fender repair for how we handle one common panel.
What about hail dents?
Hail dents come in groups and often cover the roof, hood and trunk. We check every panel, document the damage and repair the dents panel by panel. If insurance is involved, we work with your adjuster. Read more on our hail damage repair page.
What photos should I send for a dent estimate?
Take a few photos from different angles. Dents show best when you hold the camera at an angle to the panel, rather than straight on. Add one photo from a few steps back so we can see the whole panel and where the dent sits.
Text the photos to (214) 698-0369 or use the estimate form on this site. No visit is needed to start. For some damage, we may ask to see the car in person before we confirm the final repair.
How much does dent repair cost?
The cost depends on the size and depth of the dent, where it is on the car, whether the paint is damaged and how much refinishing the panel needs. A small ding and a large crease are very different repairs.
The estimate is free*. Send photos or stop by the shop. We do not quote a price before we see the damage.
How long does dent repair take?
It depends on the size of the dent, the type of repair and the paint work needed. If insurance is involved, approval also affects the schedule. We do not promise a number of days before we see the damage. We keep you posted until your car is ready.
Does insurance cover dent repair?
It can, depending on your policy. Damage from a collision or from hail can be part of a covered claim. Small dings can cost less than a deductible, so a written estimate helps you decide whether to file.
If an insurance company is involved, we talk with your adjuster and handle the paperwork. Texas law lets you choose your repair shop (Texas Insurance Code §1952.302). Your insurer can’t require you to use a specific shop. We work with the major insurance companies, including Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, GEICO, USAA and Gainsco. See our insurance claims page for more.
What decides whether a dent can be repaired?
Several things change the repair. A dent in the flat middle of a panel is usually simpler than one near an edge or along a body line. Deep dents and sharp creases stretch the metal more than shallow, round ones. Cracked or chipped paint means the panel needs refinishing.
We look at all of these when we see your photos or your car. Then we tell you which repair fits, and what it involves.
What should I do when I find a new dent?
Take a few steps before you do anything else:
Photograph it: Hold the camera at an angle to the panel so the dent shows.
Check the paint: Look for cracks or chips. Bare metal can rust, so these are worth fixing early.
Note how it happened: If another driver or a storm caused it, keep any claim number or report.
Send us the photos: Text them to (214) 698-0369. We tell you what we see.
Can I fix a dent myself?
Home dent kits are sold everywhere, and some people try them. Results vary, and a poor attempt can make the repair harder. Pulling or pushing on metal can stretch it, and it can crack the paint.
If you want to avoid that risk, send us a photo before you try anything. The estimate is free*.
Where do dents happen most often?
Doors, fenders, hoods, roofs and trunk lids take most dents. Doors collect dings in parking lots. Roofs and hoods catch hail. Fenders and quarter panels take hits from garage walls, poles and other cars.
Wherever your dent is, we repair it and refinish the panel to match. See fender repair if the dent is on a fender.
Will the repair be visible afterward?
That is our goal: no visible sign of the dent, from straight on or along the body line. The panel is reshaped, then refinished so the paint matches. Before any car leaves, we check the work under our hexagonal LED inspection lights. They show small flaws that are easy to miss in normal light, so we can fix them before you pick up the keys.
What if my car has several dents?
Many cars have more than one. A door ding, a bumped fender and a small crease can all show up on the same car. Send photos of each one. We can look at them together, and the estimate shows what each repair involves.
Does dent repair come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair includes our written Limited Lifetime Warranty on our workmanship for as long as you own the car. If something is not right with a repair we did, bring it back and we will make it right. Ask us about the warranty details with your estimate, before any work begins.
What else might my car need?
A dent can come with other damage nearby. Depending on the case, your car may also need paint work, a bumper repair or a larger collision repair. See auto painting, bumper repair and collision repair.
