Auto painting & refinishing
Tejas Paint & Body paints and refinishes cars in Dallas, Texas. Our PPG Certified technicians match your car’s original color and finish, so the new paint blends with the rest of your car. We repaint a single panel or a full car. Our shop is at 615 Fort Worth Ave in Oak Cliff, and our family has worked on cars here since 1981.
What is auto painting and refinishing?
Auto painting is the process of applying new paint to a car. Refinishing means restoring the finish of a panel that was damaged, worn or repaired. You need it after a collision, a dent repair, a bumper repair or when scratches and fading have taken over the look of the car.
A good paint job does two things. It protects the panel, and it looks like the factory finish. The color, the shine and the texture should match the panels around it, so no one can tell where the repair was.
What’s included
Color matching: Paint matched to your car’s original color and finish by our PPG Certified technicians.
Panel refinishing: From one panel to a full repaint, prepped and refinished.
Scratch & scuff repair: Surface damage sanded, painted and blended.
Final inspection: We check the finish under our hexagonal LED inspection lights before delivery.
How it works
1. Send photos: Text or upload a few photos of the damage. No visit needed to get started.
2. We call your insurer: We talk to the adjuster and handle the paperwork with you.
3. Repair + updates: We fix your car and keep you posted until it’s ready.
4. Pick up: Drive away with a repair backed by our Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Will the new paint match the rest of my car?
This is the question we hear most, and matching is the core of our work. We match your factory color so the repair blends with the rest of the car. Our technicians are PPG Certified, and they work to match your car’s original color and finish.
Matching is more than picking a color. The same color can look different on a car that has spent years in the sun. That is why the new paint is blended into the area around the repair, so the change is not visible from one panel to the next.
Why does paint color vary from car to car?
Two cars of the same make, model and color can look slightly different. Paint ages. Sun, weather and washing change the way a finish looks over time. North Texas has plenty of strong sun, and that can affect older paint.
A match has to account for the car as it is today, not just the color on the spec sheet. Blending the new paint into neighboring areas helps the repair look like it belongs.
What are the layers of a paint job?
A modern car finish has several layers. The panel is prepared first. Then comes primer, which helps the paint stick and smooths the surface. The color coat follows, and a clear coat goes on top for shine and protection.
Preparation matters as much as the paint. Sanding, cleaning and fixing small flaws before painting is what makes the finish smooth and long-lasting.
Can you paint just one panel?
Yes. We can refinish a single panel, such as a door or a fender, and blend the paint so it looks like the rest of your car. After we see your photos or your car, we tell you what the job needs.
You do not have to repaint the whole car to fix one damaged area. Many repairs need only one or two panels. If you want to see how this ties into a larger repair, read about collision repair and fender repair.
When does a car need a full repaint?
A full repaint makes sense when the finish is worn, faded or damaged across many panels, or when you want a consistent look across the whole car. It is a bigger job than a single panel, and it needs careful preparation on every surface.
We look at your car and explain whether a full repaint or a smaller repair fits. Send photos to start, and we will tell you what we see.
How do you repair scratches and scuffs?
Surface damage is sanded, painted and blended. Light scuffs, such as marks from a parking lot or a garage wall, sit in the top layers of the finish. Deeper scratches can go through to the primer or to bare panel, and they need more work.
We tell you which kind of damage you have and what the repair involves. A deep scratch left alone can let moisture reach the metal, so it is worth looking at early.
Can you paint after a dent or bumper repair?
Yes. Paint is part of most body repairs. After a dent repair, the panel is refinished so the repair blends in. After a bumper repair, the bumper is finished to match the rest of your car. See our dent repair and bumper repair pages for details.
How do you check the finish?
Before any car leaves, we check the finish under our hexagonal LED inspection lights. They show color differences, uneven texture and small flaws that are easy to miss in normal light. If we find something, we fix it before you pick up the keys.
Why does car paint fade or peel?
Paint wears out over time. Sun, heat and weather slowly break down the clear coat, which is the top layer that protects the color. Once the clear coat fails, the color underneath can fade, look dull or flake off.
Bird droppings, tree sap and harsh cleaners can also harm a finish when they stay on the paint. Older cars and cars parked outside tend to show the effects first.
What can damage my car’s paint?
Everyday life leaves marks. The most common causes are:
Sun and heat: Long exposure fades the color and wears down the clear coat.
Scrapes and scuffs: Garage walls, poles, shopping carts and other cars leave marks.
Rock chips: Small stones on the road chip the front of the car.
Contaminants: Bird droppings and sap can etch the surface.
Prior repairs: A past repair with a poor match can stand out over time.
Can you fix peeling or faded paint?
Send photos, and we tell you what the job needs. Peeling and faded paint usually points to a failed clear coat, and the panel needs proper preparation before it is painted again. Painting over a failing surface does not last.
We look at the panel and explain what is needed. The estimate is free*.
What photos should I send for a paint estimate?
Take photos in daylight, so the real color shows. Photograph each affected panel from a few angles, and add one from a few steps back so we can see how it sits next to the others. Close-ups of scratches, chips or peeling areas help us judge how deep the damage goes.
Text the photos to (214) 698-0369 or use the estimate form on this site. No visit is needed to start.
What do you need to match my color?
Photos in daylight help most. It also helps to tell us the year, make and model of your car. Cars often carry a paint code on a label, commonly in the driver’s door jamb. You do not need to find it. We look at your car and match your original color and finish.
How much does auto painting cost?
The cost depends on how many panels need paint, the size of each one, the condition of the surface and how much preparation is needed. A single panel and a full repaint are very different jobs.
The estimate is free*. Send photos or stop by the shop. We do not quote a price before we see the damage, because the preparation work is what changes the cost the most.
How long does auto painting take?
It depends on the number of panels, the preparation needed and, for insurance jobs, your insurer’s approval. A single panel takes less time than a full repaint. We do not promise a number of days before we see the car. We keep you posted until it is ready.
Does insurance pay for painting?
It can, when the painting is part of a covered repair, such as an accident or hail damage. Your policy decides what is covered. If an insurance company is involved, we talk with your adjuster and handle the paperwork with you.
Texas law lets you choose your repair shop (Texas Insurance Code §1952.302). Your insurer can’t require you to use a specific shop. We work with the major insurance companies, including Progressive, State Farm, Allstate, GEICO, USAA and Gainsco.
How should I care for new paint?
Care guidance can depend on the paint products used and the repair done. Ask us about it when you pick up your car. As a general rule, washing a car gently and parking in shade when you can helps any finish last longer.
What does the warranty cover?
Every repair includes our written Limited Lifetime Warranty on our workmanship for as long as you own the car. If something is not right with the work, bring it back and we will make it right. Ask us about the warranty details with your estimate, before any work begins.
